Zhejiang Hangzhou: Large capacity flexible low-frequency technology makes the power grid more flexible and flexible

On December 23rd, the world's first high-voltage and high-capacity low-frequency frequency converter station, the 220 kV Tingshan frequency converter station, was officially electrified and put into operation in Fuchun Bay New City, Fuyang District, Hangzhou City.

As an important component of the Hangzhou 220 kV flexible low-frequency transmission project, this frequency conversion station has achieved controllable frequency conversion of AC 220 kV voltage level electrical quantities for the first time, laying the foundation for the overall operation of the flexible low-frequency transmission project next year.

New Challenge - Unprecedented Complexity of New Power Systems, "Question" Flexible Low Frequency Transmission Technology.

In the eyes of the on-site personnel involved in the construction of the Tingshan frequency conversion station, this is not only a part of the Hangzhou 220 kV flexible low-frequency transmission project, but also one of the windows for systematically presenting the achievements of Zhejiang's construction of a provincial-level demonstration zone for a new power system. At present, Zhejiang is facing challenges such as long-distance offshore power transmission and large-scale clean energy consumption. We will use flexible low-frequency transmission technology as a key core technological innovation to overcome the above challenges, and attempt to verify its scientific and effective application in practical applications. According to Qiu Peng, a technician at the Electric Power Science Research Institute of State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co., Ltd., flexible low-frequency is an efficient AC transmission technology based on power electronics technology, which can reduce the transmission frequency of 50 Hz in traditional power grids to 20 Hz, Effectively improve the transmission capacity, distance, and efficiency of transmission lines. State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co., Ltd. aims to explore the application prospects of flexible low-frequency transmission technology in high-density load areas of large cities, taking Hangzhou as a pilot and pioneering the application of high-voltage flexible low-frequency transmission technology to urban power grids nationwide.

New solution - integrating 14 internationally leading first set of innovative achievements, seizing the world's power technology highland.

This is a large-capacity flexible switching frequency station, that is a low-frequency transformer, that is a low-frequency circuit breaker and low-frequency control and protection system... "On December 23, at the 220 kV Tingshan switching frequency station, Xu Ting, a technical personnel from State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company, was very familiar with the first set of achievements in 14 global projects. According to Xu Ting, as a major receiving city, Hangzhou presents a power grid layout with "two ACs and two DCs" as the main power source, with three ring networks in the east, west, and north. Taking the 500 kV Fuyang substation and 500 kV Shengguang substation involved in this project as examples, the 500 kV Fuyang substation currently has a main transformer capacity of 2.25 million KVA, mainly supplying areas such as Fuyang, southern Hangzhou urban area, and eastern Tonglu. The 500 kV Shengguang Substation currently has a main transformer capacity of 3.6 million KVA, mainly supplying areas such as Binjiang, the southwest of Xiaoshan, and the south of Fuyang. In recent years, the load rate of Fuyang Station has remained high, with a maximum load of 1.88 million kilowatts. During the peak period of electricity consumption, the "output value" has exceeded the limit. The load growth in the power supply area of Shengguang Station is relatively stable, with a maximum load of 1.65 million kilowatts, and there is still a lot of output "balance".

Flexible low-frequency transmission has brought a set of solutions to this problem. By constructing the Hangzhou 220 kV flexible low-frequency transmission project, the two high-voltage and high-capacity frequency conversion stations in Tingshan and Zhongbu, Hangzhou, will form low-frequency interconnections, achieving the integration of Fuyang and Xiaoshan.
