Assist in Asian Games power supply to ensure the operation of China's 220 kV flexible low-frequency transmission project

Xinhua News Agency, Hangzhou, June 30th (Reporter Lin Guangyao) On the 30th, China's 220 kV flexible low-frequency transmission project was put into operation in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. As one of the characteristic supporting projects of the Hangzhou Asian Games, this project will build two high-voltage, high-capacity, and low-frequency converter stations on the east and west sides of the Fuchun River, connecting the load centers of Fuyang and Xiaoshan in Hangzhou, providing flexible electricity support of 300000 kilowatts for the area where the main venue of the Hangzhou Asian Games is located, meeting the peak electricity demand during the event.

The 300000 kilowatt load support capacity of this project can meet the demand of 100000 households using 4 high-power air conditioners simultaneously in the scorching summer. "Xu Ting, a technician from State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company, introduced that during the Hangzhou Asian Games, this project can effectively alleviate the peak electricity consumption pressure of the power grid and enhance the power mutual assistance capacity.

Unlike traditional transmission forms, flexible low-frequency transmission technology reduces the transmission frequency from 50 Hz to 20 Hz in traditional power grids to reduce transmission "resistance" and improve transmission capacity, distance, and efficiency. After the project is put into operation, it is expected to transmit over 870 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, leveraging the improvement of the entire power grid capacity of Zhejiang by 1.3 million kilowatts, promoting the consumption of "green electricity" in Zhejiang, and further ensuring the electricity demand for Asian Games venues and local economies.

Qiu Peng, Senior Engineer of State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power, introduced that in addition to improving the flexibility and elasticity of power grid operation and enhancing the security of power supply in the core area of the Hangzhou Asian Games, flexible low-frequency transmission technology has significant economic advantages compared to existing power frequency AC and DC transmission in scenarios such as offshore wind power transmission and multi island interconnection at a distance of 70 to 200 kilometers.
